About
Kalkman Digital is one person: me, Toby Kalkman. I build the sites, I do the search work, and I answer the phone.
Why a one-person studio
Most small businesses who have been burned by a web agency were burned the same way: they were sold by someone who then handed them to someone else, and by the time anything went wrong the person who understood the job had left. There is no handover here because there is nobody to hand over to.
The trade-off is honest: I take on a limited number of jobs at a time, and if I am full I will say so rather than take your deposit and sit on it.
How I work
We talk about what your business actually needs before anything is designed. You get a fixed price in writing. I build it, you see it while it is being built rather than at the end, and you tell me what is wrong while it is still cheap to change.
When it is done, the code is yours. If you want me to look after it, there is a care plan. If you want to take it elsewhere, you can, and I will help you move it.
Where I am, and how that works
I am based in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and the work is done remotely. That is deliberate rather than a limitation. It keeps the cost down, because you are not paying for me to sit in a van, and it means a business in Lowestoft and a business in Ipswich get the same attention on the same day.
Being local still matters for the parts where it counts. I know the towns your customers are searching from, I know which trades are competitive around here, and I am in the same time zone and the same working week as you. If you would rather do the first conversation face to face, ask and we will sort something out.
